Take Care of Your Mental Health Beyond May Awareness Month

By svc-ewscms, 16 May, 2025

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to an end, it’s important to remember that resources are available year-round to help manage anxiety, cope with stress and maintain healthy relationships.

Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults (about 19 percent of the population) each year, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. While highly treatable, only about one-third of those suffering receive treatment.

If you or someone you know is experiencing anxiety, stress or worry, the company has resources to help. In addition to the Spring Health resources shared in a May 3 FM News story, all North America employees have access to health and well-being resources offered by UnitedHealthcare/Optum, the company’s medical plan provider – even if not enrolled in the plan.

  • Visit the Live and Work Well website for articles, videos and interactive tools on parenting, caregiving, well-being and more.
  • Visit Optum for multimedia content on relevant topics and trends, such as calming anxiety, youth mental health, and mindfulness and movement. Learn with tip sheets, podcasts, trainings and more. Manager resources also are available. If prompted, enter as a guest, and use company code FreeportMcMoRan.
  • Watch recorded trainings, such as this session for supporting yourself and others with anxiety.

In addition, there are several things you can do to help manage symptoms, such as practicing relaxation techniques, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy diet and getting enough sleep. It may also be helpful to talk with a mental health professional or your health-care provider to learn more about managing anxiety and developing coping skills.
