When the worst of twin wildfires approached the doorstep of Globe-Miami in Central Arizona and the company’s Miami operations on June 6, Freeport-McMoRan had one unified response to calls for help from firefighters, agencies, community members and employees: “Whatever you need.”

 For Arizona State Forestry Battalion Chief Burrell Teague, it was Freeport delivering on a Type I Fire Engine and crew from Morenci and water trucks from Miami ops at a time when the fires had closed highway access and severely limited the ability to bring in firefighting resources. 

(July 12, 2021) As miners, Minecraft and its blocky sandbox of online mineable treasure is a natural draw for at least a few of us – and our kids.  

So, the fact that we’re specifically copper miners makes it super special that the enduring online game added copper ore to its pixelated fantasyland this spring as the first new ore added since 2013. 

What’s more, Minecraft also gave its new mineral a singular quality: It’s the only ore in the game that oxidizes and, as a result, changes color.

(July 6, 2021) Students at the Diocesano School of Huelva in Spain learned about the responsible production of copper from Esperanza Morillo, a chemical engineer and Manager-Corporate Communications Initiatives, in the bright yellow and blue safety shirt, with Arturo Dominguez, Precious Metals Analyst-Atlantic Copper, on the far left. Amalia Marquez, Corporate Image Supervisor-Atlantic Copper, also participated in the classroom presentation in June.

Sierrita employees are fighting the good fight against buffelgrass – an invasive species that not only threatens other native plants but also creates a fire hazard in the already dry Arizona Sonoran Desert.

Recently, 11 Freeport-McMoRan employees and nine community volunteers spent hours removing buffelgrass, using shovels and pick axes to dig out the plants from the roots.

With the recent achievement of Copper Mark status by El Paso and Miami operations, the company now has five sites around the world with the distinguished designation for safe and responsible production.
