The Flag Above Metcalf Mill

By svc-ewscms, 25 May, 2025

(May 20, 2025) High above the Metcalf Mill, an American flag flies from the building’s highest point - a visible sign of unity, resilience and respect. On Thursday, May 15, five employees took on the task of replacing the flag. These individuals weren’t just employees – they were U.S. military veterans who served in various branches of the armed forces.

The group included Adam Nabor and Jason Hancock, both former U.S. Marine Corps; Abraham Cortez, U.S. Navy; and Jason Sterner and Lenord Cheromiah, both U.S. Army veterans. Together, they took on the responsibility of maintaining the flag, ensuring it remains in good condition and treated with the utmost respect.

On the morning of May 15th, they gathered to replace the flag. The previous flag - worn by months of wind, sun, and weather - was carefully lowered and folded in accordance with military tradition. The new flag, bright and crisp, was then raised into the morning sky.

Scott Brack, Concentrator Manager said, “To those who served, and to those who continue to serve in new ways – thank you. The flag above Metcalf flies because of you.”

As Memorial Day approaches, let this quiet act of respect serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our service members. We encourage everyone to take a moment to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country and reflect on the freedoms their sacrifice has made possible.
