(May 20, 2025) Freeport-McMoRan’s Morenci operations recently hosted a Career Day event, welcoming students from across Greenlee and neighboring counties to explore post-graduation career opportunities. Organized by the Morenci Social Performance team, led by Martha Lujan and Heather Seegmiller, the event aimed to connect students with real-world career paths available at the mine.
A total of 172 students participated, including 97 from Morenci, 35 from Duncan, seven Fort Thomas and 33 from San Carlos. The event featured 27 booths representing 34 departments, staffed by 87 employee volunteers who shared insights into their roles and career paths. Students explored fields such as heavy equipment operation, electrical maintenance, environmental science, safety and information technology.
“Our goal is to help students see the wide range of career paths available to them - many of which are right here in their own community,” said Martha Lujan, Manager of Strategic Community Development. “We’re proud to showcase the talent and teamwork that make our operations successful.”
The event reflects Freeport-McMoRan’s ongoing commitment to workforce development and community engagement. By investing in local talent and providing early exposure to career opportunities, the company aims to help build a strong, sustainable future for the region.
