Freeport’s heavy equipment simulator, an important asset for workforce training and community engagement, just received a major upgrade.
With its new four-color wrap, the simulator trailer now serves as a vibrant company ambassador, sharing key messages at career fairs, college campuses and community events as it travels through the southwest United States.
Driving awareness
Each side of the wrap is designed to highlight different aspects of the company, such as the scope of career opportunities, Freeport’s commitment to Proudly Creating Better Futures and copper’s important role in society.
For example, one side of the trailer displays “We’re People With Purpose,” emphasizing Freeport’s diverse career opportunities. On another side, the words “Copper Connects Us” are displayed alongside compelling facts that illustrate how Freeport’s critical metals help power a sustainable future.
Finally, the back of the trailer reinforces Freeport’s commitment to making a positive community impact with the message, “A Better Future Starts Here.” QR codes placed on each side make it easy for people to access more information on their own time.
One trailer, two goals
The simulator provides hands-on training for heavy equipment operators through advanced simulations, allowing employees to gain practical experience in a safe and controlled environment. These simulations mirror four real-world pieces of Caterpillar equipment: the haul truck, track dozer, motor grader and backhoe.
Numerous employees across Freeport’s Arizona and New Mexico sites have benefitted from the simulator, helping them hone their skills and become familiar with the equipment. Additionally, the trailer can be requested for events when not in use at the sites.
“The trailer’s previous plain white design didn’t do justice to the exciting experiences inside,” said Betsy Johnson, Manager-Talent Acquisition. “At events, this meant fewer people were drawn to explore the simulator and discover all the company has to offer.”
The company expects the new wrap to help overcome this challenge by attracting more interest when the simulator is showcased at community events.
“Whether the simulator is at a site, at a community event or driving down the highway, we can reinforce that mining has a sustainable future and offers a variety of career options,” Johnson said.
