Last year’s United Way campaign theme embraced the spirit of Freeport’s Proudly Creating Better Futures, and that’s just what employees achieved.
Employees pledged nearly $4.7 million, which, when combined with the company match, raised more than $12 million to support United Way in our local communities. The company double matches employee contributions of $25 or more up to the first $1,000 and single matches amounts more than $1,000.
“This incredible effort showcases the power of our collective commitment to making a meaningful difference,” said Tracy Bame, President, Freeport-McMoRan Foundation and Director-Corporate Social Performance and Community Development. “On behalf of Freeport leadership, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all employees for their support. Your contributions play an important role in strengthening our communities.”
Each year, the company partners with United Way to raise funds for a vast network of nonprofit agencies working to advance the common good, with a focus on education, income and health. The overall goal is to create long-lasting changes in communities by strategically addressing the underlying causes of problems.
“We deeply value our relationships with community partners like United Way,” Bame said. “Employee participation in our annual United Way campaign enhances our impact and demonstrates how, together as one Freeport, we responsibly move our communities forward.”
A highlight of the annual campaign is the employee prizes, with donations of at least $25 qualifying employees for various prize drawings based on giving level and program. This year’s winners include Miguel Gonzalez and Cody Burkett from Morenci, who won the $1,000 gift card grand prize and a $500 gift card, respectively, and John Prest from Phoenix, who won a $500 American Airlines gift card. Winners in other categories were contacted directly.
