Freeport achieved a major milestone today in its digital transformation journey by transitioning its business systems in North and South America and Europe to SAP’s next-generation, cloud-based platform – S/4HANA.
This project is a key component of the Transform for Value initiative, which aims to supercharge global business operations using digital platforms like S/4HANA. The goal is to ensure the right information gets to the right people at the right time, enabling the right business decisions.

S/4HANA streamlines business processes and enhances decision-making in the core areas of Maintenance, Global Supply Chain, Finance, Commercial and Human Resources. The new system enables the company to digitize and standardize common processes, gain real-time insights for better decisions, simplify work with new capabilities, and enhance the overall employee experience.
Since 2023, the T4V team – along with a global change network of 200+ employees – has been working closely with various departments and site personnel to ensure a smooth transition. A core tenet of their approach has been collaborating across departments to deliver the best solutions, improving and unifying global processes, and empowering individuals to lead change.
The February 4 release marks the initial phase of the S/4HANA rollout, with another release planned for PT Freeport Indonesia by the second quarter of 2026. The team will continue to collaborate with departments and sites and leverage insights learned in implementing the next phase.
