Freeport to Conduct Global Stand Down for Safety Today

To emphasize the critical importance of Freeport’s commitment to safety, company sites around the world are conducting a Stand Down for Safety today.

The stand down comes on the heels of a concerning number of high-risk safety incidents at Freeport – including the tragic death of a contractor at a remediation site earlier this month – as well as a general upward trend in fatalities industrywide.

All are stark reminders of the urgent need to prioritize safety by recognizing and understanding risks and hazards and stopping the job when something’s not right.

“When one of our team members gets injured or we experience a fatality, we all feel the effects,” said Kathleen Quirk, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Keeping our people safe is our top priority, and each of us has a personal responsibility to improve and make our operations the safest they can be. Our teams, our families and our business depend on it.”

During the stand down, all employees and contract workers will participate in safety discussions that address current safety performance, reinforce the focus on hazard recognition and remind employees of the company’s safety commitment. In support of site efforts, employees at corporate sites will conduct similar conversations, including ways to help sites in their efforts towards safe production.
