That’s a Wrap!

The company’s Global Volunteer Month may have wrapped in April, but the impact of Freeport volunteers on their local communities is timeless. Employees, their families and friends volunteered more than 1,500 hours to more than 30 projects worldwide focused on biodiversity and community skill-building.

“I’d like to thank all our employee volunteers for their dedication and generosity during this year's Global Volunteer Month,” said Tracy Bame, Director-Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Development. “Their gift of time and talent is pivotal in strengthening our communities, making them better places to live and work. Their actions inspire others to get involved and make a truly meaningful impact.”

Some of this year’s projects included:

  • Planting and distribution of native plant species and pollinator plants at Safford and Morenci
  • Prairie habitat improvement at Fort Madison
  • Wetlands cleanup and conservation awareness at Cerro Verde
  • Development of safety and risk prevention training for elderly residents near El Abra
  • Participation in an annual roadway cleanup and community bike race at New Mexico operations
  • Food preparation at a local food bank in El Paso
  • Participation in an Earth Day celebration at Bagdad
  • Blood drive event at a local village near the Manyar smelter in Indonesia
  • Gardening activities at a community garden in South Phoenix

“This year’s event had a great turnout with some awesome volunteers. The most memorable part about this year was giving back to the community and putting smiles on people’s faces. It’s always nice to know the company we work for cares a lot about the employees and their families,” said Bobbi Jo Valenzuela, Administrative Assistant II at Morenci.
