Freeport-McMoRan President Kathleen Quirk urged company employees to be diligent about the safety of themselves and their coworkers in a video message marking World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which is Sunday.
“All of you need to do your part,” Quirk said. “We’re all accountable. The leadership of the company is accountable, and we are relying on all of our workforce to follow procedures and really at the heart of it, stay safe and keep your coworkers safe. We can’t be successful as a company unless we keep our people safe.”
Worker safety is the highest priority for the company, Quirk said in the video. Last year, employees participated in dedicated safety discussions emphasizing the responsibility of every employee to work safely and hold themselves accountable for their actions. Discussions included the distribution of safety commitment cards for employees to sign and carry as a reminder of the importance and expectation to work safely.
However, we’ve seen an increase in the number of high-risk incidents, Quirk said. Everyone needs to pay attention, follow procedures and be aware that many employees work in environments full of distractions.
“It’s so important to our business, to all of you, to your families, for us to go to work every day and come home safely,” Quirk said.
