From the Heart
More than 100 members of the Freeport-McMoRan team recently joined 25,000 walkers in downtown Phoenix for the American Heart Association’s 2024 Phoenix Heart Walk.
The American Heart Association, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, conducts the annual event around the country to raise money to fund life-saving science and save lives from the U.S.’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers, heart disease and stroke.
The Freeport team, led for the third consecutive year by Dan Kravets, Vice President-Corporate Development and Exploration, himself a survivor, raised more than $35,000 from this year’s walk. Overall, the 2024 Phoenix Heart Walk raised more than $1.4 million.
“I walk to raise awareness about the risk of coronary artery disease and save lives, educate everyone to listen to their body, and to promote a heart-healthy lifestyle,” said Kravets, who also is a member of the American Heart Association’s Executive Leadership Team. “We have all been touched by this disease, and it is inspirational to be with so many Freeport employees, family and friends, sharing stories and working together to save lives.”

The Freeport team even included some four-legged walkers, including Gynger, a cocker spaniel, who participated with Yanira Van Horn, HRMS Analyst-Human Resources; a sign along the route commemorates Kravets’ commitment to the cause.
