PT Freeport Indonesia President Director Tony Wenas has been named one of that nation’s best businesspeople by Fortune Indonesia Magazine.
Wenas is one of 20 business executives named on the publication’s 2023 Businessperson of the Year list. Honorees are selected based on their company’s performance since 2021, as well as other factors including the duration of their leadership, good corporate governance, corporate actions and the resulting impact.
Wenas had been a CEO at four large, multinational companies and has almost 16 years with the company, including senior leadership roles in government relations, legal, tax and external affairs. In his current role, he is responsible for driving critical operational, technological and transformational initiatives within the company’s Indonesian operations.
That includes development of the new PTFI smelter being built in Gresik, East Java. When it opens next year, the Gresik smelter will be the largest single-line copper smelter in the world.
“I feel very honored, but it’s not about me,” Wenas said after receiving the recognition. “It’s about the superb PTFI team. I’m so proud to be one of them.”
This is the third annual list of top businesspeople in Indonesia since the publication began in 2021.
