Cybersecurity Incident Update: Critical Business Applications Now Running

By svc-ewscms, 16 May, 2025

The company has successfully restored numerous critical business applications and is working toward restoring site critical applications after an August 11 cybersecurity incident affected its information systems.

“We are extremely pleased to have critical business applications like SAP up and running globally. We hope to quickly follow with restoring critical applications at the sites,” said Bert Odinet, Vice President, Chief Information Officer and Chief Innovation Officer. “We know this has been a difficult time for everyone and appreciate your patience.”

SAP and operational applications update

On Friday, SAP in North America, South America and Europe was successfully restored to normal business operations, with teams now entering the data captured while systems were offline.

Operations systems at the sites are beginning to be restored, starting with Dispatch. This means data is not yet transferring to SAP and into associated reports. Employees should continue using manual processes to include this data in corporate reporting. Timelines for restoration will depend on the current integrity of the associated systems.

At PT Freeport Indonesia, the business teams are in the process of preparing SAP for normal operations to start later this week.

Payroll update

In North America, the September 1 payroll will run through SAP, using information from time clocks. During the next two weeks, the Payroll department will be reconciling payrolls for August 18 and 25, using data stored in the time clocks. More information will be available this week.

In South America, time clocks are expected to transmit data to SAP later this week. Data being collected through time clocks is still being saved.

Other major applications

Other major applications up and running include, but are not limited to, Success Factors, Ariba, CAS (except for PTFI), Basware, Master Data Governance for Enterprise Asset Management and for Materials, Snowflake (data warehouse), Business Objects, PowerBI, Enablon and Concur.

A few reminders

  • Please submit receipts and approve invoices in a timely manner, as we anticipate closing the books as usual on August 31.
  • There may be some interruptions to our systems, as we continue our restoration activities.
  • Reports are being restarted in priority order.
