Francisco J. Costabal has announced his retirement as Vice President-Business Development and Administration effective May 31. He will continue as chairman of the Board of Directors of Sociedad Contractual Minera El Abra and as an advisor to the company.
Francisco’s career in mining spans 50 years, including 13 years with the company. He has been recognized with multiple awards for his contributions to the industry, most notably receiving special award recognition on the opening day of the 2021Expomin mining fair in Chile and the 2017 Radoslav Razmilic award for a lifetime of achievement from the Association for Industrialists of Antofagasta.
We will miss Francisco’s leadership and wish him all the best.
Mario Larenas, Director-Legal and Administration, will become Country Manager-Chile, a newly created position with responsibility for the Santiago office effective June 1. Mario started with the company in 2013 as Legal Director. He became Director-Legal and Administration in 2017, overseeing administrative functions including Compliance, Environmental, Human Resources, and Sales and Logistics. Before joining the company, Mario worked at Antofagasta Minerals and various law firms.
He holds a Juris Doctorate equivalent from the Catholic University of Chile Law School and a Master of Laws from Columbia University School of Law.
