(September 8, 2022) Claudia Corvalán, Public Affairs Manager-Chile, has been appointed to the board of directors of Fundación Sonami, a nonprofit organization that works to improve the quality of life for communities near mining activities in Chile.

The foundation is part of Chile’s National Mining Society. It carries out initiatives and projects related to culture, art, training and development of human capital.

“This is a very good opportunity to show the local communities that, as a sector, we are interested in contributing to culture, education and training as an ally with the public sector and other organizations,” Corvalán said. “I hope to contribute and represent Freeport in making the industry’s social work visible.”

Among other programs, the foundation provides scholarships for children of mine workers and small-scale miners, and promotes professional women in the mining industry.
