I am pleased to announce the following changes in the FM Americas organization:
Boris Medina has been named President-El Abra effective August 1 after serving as Interim President since June 1. He will continue to report to me.
Boris started with the company in 2002 as a leaching metallurgist at El Abra. He progressed through various roles, becoming Superintendent-Leaching Operations in 2009 and Manager-Environmental in 2011. He moved to the U.S. in 2013 as Manager-Hydromet at Safford and transferred to Morenci in 2017 as Manager-Concentrator. He returned to El Abra in 2018 as General Manager-Operations.
Boris has a degree in Civil Metallurgical Engineering from Universidad de Concepcion in Chile.
Fio Giana has been named General Manager-Mining at Morenci effective August 16. She will report to Mike Kridel, Senior Vice President-Morenci.
Fio started with the company in 2006 as a mine engineer at Chino. She has held positions of increasing responsibility in mine engineering, short- and long-range planning, crush / convey and mine operations at Morenci, Bagdad and Cerro Verde. In 2020, she moved to the Phoenix Corporate office as Director-Business Transformation.
Fio has a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla (now the Missouri University of Science and Technology) and a master’s degree in Mining Engineering and Management from Colorado School of Mines. She also is a Professional Engineer in mining and mineral processing.
