(May 17, 2022) Fort Madison’s ongoing commitment to facility safety recently was recognized by a national organization that advocates for the chemistry industry.

At its annual expo held in late March, the American Chemistry Council named Climax Molybdenum’s Fort Madison plant as one of 47 recipients of the 2022 Facility Safety award for significant achievements in employee health and safety performance.

“We are very proud and happy about this accomplishment earned through hard work, focus and engagement,” said Javier Emilio Guevara, General Manager-Moly Plant, Fort Madison. “Here at Fort Madison, we take safe production one day at a time and try hard to plan our daily activities, giving the same consideration to production, safety and environmental compliance.”

For Guevara and his team, every challenge is an opportunity to learn and get better.

“When something doesn’t turn out as expected, we try to understand the whys, so that we can do better next time,” he said.

The Fort Madison plant in southeastern Iowa is the world’s largest and highest quality producer of numerous chemical products. Complex processes, equipment and technology go into making all the products that come from Fort Madison, and employees of the site have proven they’re focused on the right things when it comes to safe production, said Ryan Dunne, Director-Corporate Health and Safety, Phoenix.

“Leadership routinely engages with employees to identify and remedy safety deficiencies to make the work safer,” Dunne said. “Everyone asks questions, identifies risks, and collaborates to find solutions, and this is all paying dividends when it comes to the team’s safety performance.”
