(April 25, 2022) “Your PayPal account has been frozen, click here to update.”
“Your Microsoft Outlook security information has been updated. Click here if that wasn’t you.”
They both sound and look like legitimate emails, but are they?
Likely not, which is why it’s so important to complete the company’s required Cyber Security Essentials 2022 training by April 30. The training will help you recognize the latest cyber risks so you can protect both the company’s information as well as your own.
Cyber attacks are disrupting global businesses at an unprecedented rate, and pose a serious risk to the company. For that reason, all Freeport-McMoRan employees and contractors are required to complete the training or risk the loss of internet access privileges.
“Security awareness and education improves our cyber security intelligence both at work and at home,” said Ray Dudas, IT Security Analyst II. “There are lots of different things to look out for, ranging from social engineering, phishing, and ransomware to bad URLs and BEC scams.”
For those of us less familiar with cyber security, a BEC scam is a business email compromise that allows criminals access to legitimate business and email accounts, which they may use to arrange unauthorized wire transfers.
If you haven’t already, please complete the mandatory course on the company’s Security Education Platform. The “My Assignments” dashboard will include all assigned training. Below the assigned training module, you’ll find additional modules with video training on a variety of topics, including:
- How to Report a Phish – Learn how to use the PhishAlarm button in your email
- Social Engineering – Recognize and avoid social engineering scams
- Think Before You Click – Identify phishing links before you click on them
The FCX Cyber Security Team customizes each year’s training based on needs identified from a December survey and assessment. You can learn more and even see the results of the assessment here.
