(April 1, 2022) After a two-year hiatus, the company’s Global Volunteer Month kicks off today with a special opportunity for employees to rename the volunteer program and win an iPad or Air Pods.
Global Volunteer Month is a month-long celebration of service where employees come together as One Freeport to make a meaningful difference in communities through volunteerism. The annual event was put on hold during the pandemic but is back this year with a focus on biodiversity and community skill building.
“Employee volunteerism has been and continues to be an important way our Freeport Family can help build stronger, more vibrant communities through the simple act of lending time and talent to projects that align with our commitment to deliver social value,” said Tracy Bame, Director-Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Development. “We are excited to bring back Global Volunteer Month and look forward to the positive impact it will make as we partner with communities to transform tomorrow together.”
GVM projects are coordinated on a site-by-site basis and may take place in-person and / or virtually. Sites will provide more information about their specific projects.
About the renaming contest
As part of GVM this year, the company is holding a contest to rename the employee volunteer program (formerly called High-Grade Helpers) to better reflect the spirit of the program today and beyond.
Here are the details:
- Eligibility: All full-time and part-time employees are eligible to participate.
- How to Enter: Submit your entries online now through April 15.
- What to Enter: Preferred names will connect to the mining industry, translate well across the entire Freeport organization and reflect the company’s goal of supporting community skill building and biodiversity through volunteerism.
- Winner Selection / Notification: The winning name and two runners-up will be selected by a committee with representation from various departments. Winners will be contacted directly and announced in FM News as well as other company communication channels.
- Prizes: The employee with the winning name will receive an iPad, and the two runners-up will each receive a pair of Air Pods.

Global Volunteer Month launched in 2003 with the start of the company’s employee volunteer program. Since then, employees have volunteered hundreds of thousands of hours through Global Volunteer Month activities.
