Rick Coleman, President, Freeport-McMoRan Mining Co., will be transitioning to a new role as President, Growth Support, effective December 1.
During his almost 27 years with the company, Rick’s leadership has been instrumental in advancing capital projects at our global operations as well as various initiatives in the areas of resource development, technology, technical services, operational improvement, and engineering and construction. He has held senior leadership roles in operations and engineering at PT Freeport Indonesia, oversaw engineering and construction of the company’s Tenke Fungurume project, and led the company’s Resource Development Team to identify, evaluate and execute global growth opportunities.
We are pleased Rick will continue his services to our organization by supporting the following employees in their new roles, also effective December 1:
- Cory Stevens, currently Vice President-Operational Improvement, has been named President, Freeport-McMoRan Mining Services (formerly Freeport-McMoRan Mining Company). Cory joined the company in 1997 and has held numerous positions at our North and South America operations. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and a Master of Business Administration degree from Western New Mexico University. He will report to me.
- Khaled Sunna, Vice President-Engineering, will become Senior Vice President-Engineering. He will continue his focus on major capital projects with responsibility for the Engineering and Construction group and take on expanded responsibilities that include working with site operations in support of capital project activities and operational readiness for an expansive list of major capital projects across the globe. Khaled joined the company in 1994 and held numerous positions at Grasberg until 2002. He rejoined the company in 2008 as Director-Projects Commissioning. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Arizona. He will report to Cory.
- Ari Partanen, currently Director-Metallurgy and Strategic Planning, will become Vice President-Technical Services. Ari joined the company in 2000 at PT Freeport Indonesia, working in metallurgy and mill operations for four years before leaving the company and returning to the Phoenix Corporate office in 2008. He has a Bachelor of Science in electrical and electronic engineering from James Cook University, a doctorate in systems engineering from The Australian National University, and a Graduate Certificate in mineral economics from Curtin University. He will report to Cory.
