We are pleased to announce the following changes in the Tailings, Crushed Leach and Water department that reflect our commitment to responsible tailings management and stewardship.

As a member of the International Council on Mining and Metals, we are in the process of implementing the Global Tailings Standard, which aims to enhance the safety of mine tailings storage facilities. This requires the creation of specific roles, including our role as the Accountable Executives for tailings facilities at the company’s active and discontinued operations, as well as appointing site-specific Responsible Tailings Facility Engineers at our North and South America operations.

The RTFEs are responsible for ensuring company tailings facilities are constructed to design intent by partnering with site teams and the Engineer of Record and also support broader stakeholder engagements related to tailings. In connection with this change, the following employees have been named the RTFE for tailings facilities at the active and discontinued operations listed below.

  • Ranjiv Gupta – Bagdad and Bruce
  • Cassandra Hall – Ajo, Copper Queen Branch, Chino (Deputy is Salvador Ortiz) and New Mexico discontinued operations (Tyrone, Cobre, Deming and El Molino), Shafter, Miami, Christmas and Clarkdale
  • Kanyembo Katapa – Sierrita and Twin Buttes
  • Katie Kruger – URAD and Mount Emmons
  • Sam Saunders – Climax and Henderson
  • Teresa Speigl– Cerro Verde (Deputy is Liliana Gutierrez)
  • Mike Waldron – Morenci

These employees will report up through the Corporate TCLW department to Georgia Lysay or Tamara Johndrow, Directors of TCLW in Phoenix, and dotted-line report to the relevant operating site’s General Manager or Tom Calhoun, Director-Closure Reclamation Planning, for discontinued operations. Site tailings engineers at active operations will report to the RTFEs and dotted-line report to site management for a continued strong focus on operations, maintenance, surveillance and engineering practices.

This new structure leverages our current expertise while creating a consistent reporting line that will help our team share resources and strengths and support close collaboration as we implement the new standard.

Please join me in congratulating these employees in their new roles and wishing the entire team continued success.
