I am pleased to announce Thomas Beron will join the Legal Department as Senior Strategic Advisor-Global Capital Projects effective September 1, 2021.
In this role, Thomas will provide legal advice and guidance on capital projects and work closely with our FM Mining Company team led by Rick Coleman, President-FMMC. Thomas also will continue to work on matters relating to PT Freeport Indonesia, which will remain a significant part of his responsibilities.
Thomas will report to me and work closely with Khaled Sunna, Vice President, Engineering-FMMC, on capital projects and with Dean Falgoust, Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer, on matters relating to PTFI.
Thomas joined the Freeport organization in 2011, serving in various roles before assuming a position in 2017 at PT Freeport Indonesia based in Jakarta where he worked in the areas of business development, legal and government relations. He most recently has been working on the new smelter project in Indonesia.
Before joining Freeport-McMoRan, Thomas was a partner at the law firm of Liskow & Lewis in New Orleans. He also served for 27 years in the active and reserve components of the U.S. Army and retired as Brigadier General in 2011.
Thomas has a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University, a Master of Arts from University of Virginia and a Juris Doctorate from Tulane University Law School. He also received a Master’s in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.
