Coming soon: New Microsoft Defender tools arrive in March

By svc-ewscms, 16 May, 2025

Starting the week of March 3, you’ll have access to new reporting tools in your Microsoft Outlook inbox, along with a new email quarantine page.

When this change goes into effect, the existing “Proofpoint for Outlook” and “PhishAlarm” buttons in your Outlook ribbon will be replaced by a new “Report” dropdown. This dropdown allows you report an email as a phish—which sends it to the MIS Security team—or as junk, which results in future messages from that sender being quarantined from your inbox.

You’ll also have access to a new email quarantine page, accessible at security.microsoft.com/quarantine. Like the current quarantine folder, the Microsoft Defender quarantine page contains all messages identified as spam or bulk-send emails. With this rollout, you will start receiving a regular email from Microsoft with a summary of all the new messages being held in your quarantine. Emails are quarantined for 30 days before being deleted.

As Defender integrates with our environment, you may see a temporary increase in the number of spam / bulk messages that arrive in your inbox. This will quickly decrease as Defender’s filters adjust. You can help train Defender by using the new “report junk” tool described above.
