The Hydromet team soon will commission a new, robotic cathode stripping machine at the east end of the tank house. This machine, manufactured by Metso Outotec, is similar to automated systems commonly used in metallurgical labs for sampling and other repetitive tasks. It will wash, strip, sample and bundle cathode sheets as they are harvested from the electrowinning cells, and it has a throughput capacity of 450 cathodes per hour. The bulk of the machine is assembled and in place, and now the electrical and hydraulic lines are going in. The tank house was extended with a new shed, concrete work and decking to accommodate the system. Stay tuned for commissioning!
