With a new year underway, please remember to visually inspect all 120-volt electrical cords and power strips in your workplace, whether the devices are in use or stored. Examine cords closely for any fraying, degraded insulation, discoloration, loose components, broken / missing pins or other damage.
In shops and other operating areas, inspected cords must be wrapped with orange tape by an electrician or other authorized employee. Remove and / or replace any non-compliant devices. For more information, contact the electrical supervisor responsible for your area.
If you work in an office or cubicle, you are responsible for conducting and documenting inspections of cords in your assigned area. If you used an inspection form last year, check the date of the last inspection and ensure this year's inspection is not overdue. If you need a new form, contact a Health and Safety representative.
